What Does the First Amendment Protect? The author put it best with these words; "a clash between the worship of freedom of speech and a concern for the quality of public life in relation to which free speech may sometimes be asked to take a back seat." To me a good analogy for this article is the first bite of an apple. In taking a little here and there, doesn't the whole thing become ruined?

Growing up we had a tulip tree in our front yard, the centerpiece of the yard. Once, my cousins I were playing out front and we broke a branch off said tulip tree. Using our superior knowledge we fashioned some grass and mud to secure the branch back on so that my parents wouldn't find out, obviously it didn't work, my dad saw right through it.

Thinking about this week's word reminded me of a time I was pulled over for speeding. I was headed up to Idaho to visit some friends, at the time I was going to BYU, and I had drunk a considerable amount of root beer, and I had to pee so I was going a little fast. I was pulled over and I told the officer my situation, I was 100 yards from the exit I was going to take. He told me, in his very stern policeman voice, that it wouldn't matter how bad I had to pee if I was dead because I was going so fast. So, to this day I think of that. A whole lot of things don't matter if you're dead.

We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through." —Ira Glass

I usually don't post much of the written word, however I thought this was great. Exactly what I needed to hear; "You've just gotta fight your way through."

I remember seeing the "For Colored Girls" poster awhile back and really liking the illustration, although I never knew who did it. Today though I saw a similar looking illustration and they were done by the same person, Marion Bolognesi. Very striking, dramatic style. I really enjoyed looking through her stuff. Opening Title Sequence for "Scott Pilgrim vs the World"

I saw "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" when it came out a few months back, and I really enjoyed it. Today I read a post from Art of the Title, that has renewed my interest. Watching the opening credits once again reminded of all that the film has to offer. In the post they interviewed the director and designers behind the opening to the film. I found the shot shown above, the couch being pulled back, to be interesting considering what it took to accomplish. It was great to get some background on the credits as well and why they took the approach they did. To watch the opening click here.
